Bell came from an old local church and was stored for a long time.
I only cleaned it with a little dawn detergent and water, then oiled it down.
It has what looks like some light, tiny, spray paint splatters around the top where I surmise the bell steeple / bell housing might have been painted years back.
The number is 6, then looks like 1/2.
I cannot detect and cracks or defects, it looks as solid as when it was made.
*Note- bell is in Sevierville, Tennessee outside of Knoxville.
I could not quite make out the stamped name ?UMSEY, but has Seneca Falls N.Y. stamped, so after a quick internet search found it to be Rumsey & Co. and the following came off internet:
"John Rumsey was Born in Fayette, NY January 20, 1819.
In 1845 he came to Seneca Falls, NY. and soon after became employed with Cowing & Co. as a traveling agent for their sales of pumps. He did so well that he became one of their partners in 1849. The first made fire engine was constructed by Cowing & Co. in 1853.
In 1864 he started Rumsey & Co,. with his brother. He was known to the community as a distinguished businessman. His son later in time joined the business after John became ill. He made steadfast and unwavering friendships around town. He was a generous man.
John Runsey passed on March 26, 1903."
