Williams Estates is named after John Stuart Williams. Born near Mount Sterling, KY, John Stuart Williams was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1851 to 1853. He built a reputation as a leading proponent of states rights. When the Civil War began Williams traveled to Prestonburg in early 1861, and was commissioned as the Colonel of the 5th Kentucky Infantry. His performance garnered him the promotion of Brigadier General in 1863, assigned the command of the Department of Southwestern Virginia.
After the war he returned to his home in Winchester, Kentucky and found solace in agricultural pursuits. He continued his political life in various roles and eventually served as a Senator from 1879 to 1885. He later returned to Kentucky and agriculture, but found time to get involved in developing land in Florida, and with the help of a partner he founded the town of Naples, FL. He died in Mount Sterling and was buried in Winchester.

New York was inhabited by the Algonquin, Iroquois, and Lenape Native American groups at the time Dutch and French nationals moved into the region in the early 17th century. First claimed by Henry Hudson in 1609, the region came to have Dutch forts at Fort Orange, near the site of the present-day capital of Albany in 1614, and was colonized by the Dutch in 1624 at both Albany and Manhattan; it later fell to British annexation in 1664.
The borders of the British colony, the Province of New York, were roughly similar to those of the present-day state. About one third of all of the battles of the Revolutionary War took place in New York. New York became an independent state on July 9, 1776 and enacted its constitution in 1777
that Gray, whose politics seem to have been either conservative or libertarian with a decided populist streak, introduced some of his more controversial storylines. He would look into the darker aspects of human nature, such as greed and treachery. The gap between rich and poor was an important theme.
